  • Tomato Rasam recipe

    Preparation:

This is a slightly altered version for easy digestion in babies.

    1. Chop a small tomato into small pieces.
    2. Cut up a garlic clove into pieces.
    3. Fry these in an iron kadai on a low-medium flame till the tomato is squishy and cooked properly.
    4. Blend the fried tomatoes and garlic to form a smooth paste.
    5. Now in the same kadai, add a few drops of oil and the blended paste, add ½ spoon of Tomato Rasam powder and a little salt.
    6. Fry for a minute on low flame. Then add half a cup of water and let it boil. Let the rasam simmer for a few more minutes till vapours filled with the smell of spices appear.
    7. Turn off the stove and place a lid on the rasam.

Method to feed tomato rasam to your baby: Make sure that the rasam is warm and not very hot. Rasam can be added to freshly cooked rice rava in small quantities with a few drops of ghee and fed. For babies above 11 months of age, regular rice that is freshly cooked can be mashed well with rasam and a few drops of ghee can be given. Also the tomatoes and garlic need not be ground to a paste if your baby is able to chew on hard solids.
